Modern, recently built, rifugio. Large restaurant, with a loft area above. You see the workers hauling supplies for the restaurant up the mountain using backpacks, and hauling down the rubbish and recycling the same way. On the way up the mountain to this rifugio is a dairy that sells cheese. History: Construction work on the Frassati Refuge began in the summer of 2008 by the young people of Operation Mato Grosso , a movement of young people from all over Italy, who worked for free for three summers, until the inauguration in 2011. The transport of the necessary materials was done almost entirely on the shoulders of the volunteers, who donated one or more weeks of their summer holidays to build the shelter. Immersed in nature, in the silence of the mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, choosing to give of one's time to the poorest, living the weeks following the natural rhythm of the day, from dawn to dusk: these are the secret ingredients of the Refuge. In keeping with the spirit of adventure and simplicity of Operation Mato Grosso, the volunteers spent their work weeks using the Tza di Merdeux mountain pasture, located a 45-minute walk below the refuge, as their base camp. Operation Mato Grosso has already completed the construction of another refuge in the Aosta Valley, the Rifugio degli Angeli (2916 m) located in Val Grisenche. Also called, "Rifugio Pier Giorgio Frassati".
