The SAC Schreckhorn Hut is situated on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jungfrau-Aletsch , not far from the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau mountains. This traditional hut sits perched in a high-alpine location – the glaciers seem almost within reach. The trail to the hut is one of the most beautiful, but also most challenging, ascents in the Swiss Alps. For this reason alone, the several-hour climb is worthwhile. Step by step, an impressive high-mountain landscape unfolds, becoming more spectacular with every meter gained. Far removed from the touristy valley, one enjoys peace, vastness, and the magnificent scenery up here – often accompanied by the almost daily visit of ibex. The SAC Schreckhorn Hut is the starting point for demanding routes to the 4,000-meter peaks of the Schreckhorn and Lauteraarhorn , as well as for a number of lower, equally rewarding summits. The hut is also a popular stopover on multi-day, combined hut-to-hut tours – offering plenty of activities for a varied stay in a high-alpine environment.
