This hike starts in Kandersteg. The easy version of this hike, (using a gondola to get up most of the mountain), is about 10 km distance with about 500 meters elevation gain. The hard version of this hike, (not using a gondola), is about 14 km distance with about 900 meters elevation gain. Both the long and short version eventually do a circular route near this beautiful mountain lake. The short version begins at the mountain station of the Oeschinensee gondola lift, which departs from Kandersteg. You will see the hotel and inn Oeschinensee, located on west bank of the lake. The Oeschinensee has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007 and is considered by many to be the most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps. It is fed by the glacial streams of the Blüemlisalphorn, Oeschinenhorn, Fründenhorn and Doldenhorn. There are also a few mountain huts along the route, where hikers can recharge their batteries and really take in the Oeschinen area. Further information, prices and opening times for the Oeschinensee gondola lift and everything to know about the lake and area can be found in this Activity's Links section.
