Hike to Holyoakes Shelter. This is a steep 17 km out-and-return hike, with a 730 metre vertical gain. Actual walking time is about four to five hours, but plan on a six to seven hour trip, including lunch and other stops. I would NOT recommend this trip if you are a first-time vistor to Abel Tasman. There are prettier hikes along the coast. But if you are a Nelson/Tasman local, and are looking for some exercise, this is a good day trip. Park in the DOC parking lot at the end of the road in Marahau, walk into the park, and just after the Tinline campsite you turn uphill. If you want to make the hike longer, on the way back return via Torrent Bay or Anchorage.
