Huka Falls is a powerful waterfall on the Waikato River, just a short drive north of Taupō. The river narrows dramatically from around 100 m to only 15 m before plummeting in cascading stages totaling about 7 to 11 m, creating a roaring torrent that discharges up to 220 m³/s—enough to fill an Olympic swimming pool in about 11 seconds. The falls are famed for their vivid, frothy blue-white water and scenic lookout platforms.
